Melbourne Press Club/Trawalla Foundation Arts Journalism Scholarship

Senior arts writer Gabriella Coslovich was named winner of the inaugural Melbourne Press Club/Trawalla Foundation Arts Journalism Scholarship, which was announced last week by Victorian Arts Minister Lynne Kosky at the Annual Arts Lunch in Melbourne. Gabriella won for a trio of stories on artist Del Kathryn Barton; Barry Pearce’s Nolan Retrospective; and architect Paul Morgan’s award-winning sustainable home at Cape Schanck.

The judges said: “Gabriella’s folio was... immensely readable and offered new insights into both familiar and entirely original subjects. Her writing is evocative but not gaudy.” The judges commended the depth and detail of Gabriella’s observations. They said: “Her work is attentive and respectful of both her subjects and her audience.” The Trawalla Foundation invests in ideas, innovation and scholarship in the arts, education and the environment.
