Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers Association (PANPA) awards
Sunday Newspaper of the Year

The Sunday Age was named the Sunday newspaper of the year in the Pacific region. The prestigious accolade was announced at a Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers Association awards ceremony in Sydney. Judges praised The Sunday Age for its outstanding design and journalism, which they said made it "hard to beat". "The Sunday Age undoubtedly displays the finest journalism in this category," they said.

The publisher and managing director of The Age, Don Churchill, last night expressed his delight at the achievement. "The award is a tribute to the readers of The Sunday Age, who have embraced the paper's mixture of both hard-hitting news and relaxed, entertaining reads," he said.

Age editor-in-chief Paul Ramadge said the award came in a milestone year for the newspaper. "This is a wonderful achievement for The Sunday Age as it celebrates its 20th year," he said. "In the past 12 months, the Sunday paper has had a vibrancy and an energy and a compelling mix of both news and feature stories."

Sunday Age editor Gay Alcorn said: "This win is a great credit to a hard-working and creative editorial newsroom. More than that, it is a team effort. Support from our advertising, marketing and circulation departments has been invaluable."
