Three Age advertising staff won major awards at the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association (PANPA) 2009 Advertising Awards. Agency account manager, Alex Keynes, won the display advertising executive of the year award; senior account manager for employment, Tia Clarke, won the classifieds sales executive of the year award; and sales manager for strategic publications, Richard Lehocz, won the excellence in advertising bundling award.

The PANPA Advertising Awards attracted more than 160 entries from newspapers across Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific and South-East Asia. Chief executive of PANPA, Mark Hollands, said: “The best work was achieved by newspapers and executives who are closest to their clients. Their depth of partnership and collaboration produced great ads and campaigns, as well as excellent results.”


In a statement to staff last week, Melbourne Publishing sales and marketing director, David Hoath, and chief executive Don Churchill said: “Alex, Tia and Richard are outstanding sales people and we are incredibly proud to have them represent The Age and Fairfax Media. The PANPA Advertising Awards are highly regarded within the industry, and are an ideal forum for showcasing advertising excellence. To receive such awards is testament to the dedication and professionalism of these individuals. They are well regarded by their peers, and are consistently high achievers. They are fine role models for all staff at The Age. In a tough and challenging marketplace, they have achieved remarkable results. They demonstrate considerable talent and great ability to promote the underlying strength of newspapers.
