A new lineup of senior editors at The Age
Friday, September 26, 2008
One of the nation's most experienced teams of editors was announced yesterday at The Age.

In making the appointments, The Age's Editor-in-Chief, Paul Ramadge, said: ''We have a very talented and experienced team to lead the paper and ensure The Age's continued commitment to innovative, quality journalism."
Ramadge, a former Senior Deputy Editor, Saturday Editor and Night Editor at the paper, was appointed Editor-in-Chief after the recent departure of Andrew Jaspan.
He has announced the following lineup of senior editors.
Mark Baker, Senior Deputy Editor
Baker will oversee all aspects of the paper's coverage in News, Business, Sport, World and Opinion. A former editor of The Canberra Times, he was a distinguished foreign correspondent whose assignments included the Tiananmen massacre, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and, more recently, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has served previously as The Age's deputy editor, night editor and political editor and Canberra bureau chief.
Steve Foley, Deputy Editor (New Media and Production)
Foley will bring years of senior editing experience as he manages the presentation of the paper, multi-media collaboration and fully integrated production desks. He is a former editor of The Sunday Age and Saturday Age and, in 2004, was editor of "Reflections: 150 years of history", marking The Age's 150th anniversary. Since 2007 he has been deputy editor, responsible for editing, design and production of the Monday to Friday paper.
Andrew Rule, Deputy Editor (Investigations and Features)
Rule will lead the paper's multi-award-winning investigations unit, guide the senior writers' team and manage major news features. He has twice been named Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year and won the prestigious Gold Walkley Award in 2001 for his expose of the rape allegations against Aboriginal leader Geoff Clarke. Rule is co-author, with John Silvester, of several best-selling crime books, including "Underbelly".
Gay Alcorn, Editor, The Sunday Age
Alcorn has moved to reposition the Sunday paper for continued growth and success since taking over the editorship earlier this year. She is a former deputy editor, United States correspondent and Walkley Award winner.
Michael Gordon, Editor, The Saturday Age
Gordon will guide the paper's flagship edition with expanded responsibility for Saturday news, features and sections. A respected writer, editor and author, he is a former National Affairs Editor and Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year.
Sean O'Connor, Editor, Strategic Publications and Sections
O'Connor will expand the paper's strategic publications division and lead the editorial teams on Education, Epicure, Green Guide and EG. He is a former news editor, night editor, deputy editor (news) and deputy editor of The Sunday Age. He has also worked as a reporter and news editor on a number of South African newspapers.
Bill Farr, Art Director
In reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, Farr will bring his design brilliance to all parts of the paper. A Walkley Award winner, he came to The Age as art director from a similar position at the Australian edition of Time Magazine.
Rod Wiedermann, Managing Editor
Wiedermann has vast newspaper experience across a range of areas, including editorial, finance and publishing operations. He has been extensively involved in the redesign of The Age, content improvements and skills strategies. He offers leadership, strength and vision.
