Senior editorial appointments

The Age is pleased to announce several senior editorial appointments.

Gay Alcorn, currently Deputy Editor of The Age, will become editor of The Sunday Age. She brings with her a wealth of experience, vision and excellent journalistic skills recognised by three Walkley awards.

Mark Baker, outstanding editor of The Canberra Times, will be returning to Melbourne and will become Editor (Special Projects) for The Age. Editor-in-chief, Andrew Jaspan, said: "Mark will have a key role driving The Age's special projects, which includes the highly successful Investigative Unit. He will also direct the paper's senior writers as well as a host of other campaigns and special reports. He will also play a key role in the development of the The Age."

Current editor of The Sunday Age, Peter Fray, replaces Mark in Canberra as Editor of The Canberra Times. “While I am sorry to see Peter leave for Canberra I know he leaves The Sunday Age in an exceptionally strong position with the paper recently recording its highest ever circulation” Jaspan said. “I have immensely enjoyed working with him and wish him every success at The Canberra Times.”

Recent readership figures have distinguished The Sunday Age as the fastest growing major newspaper in the country. The Age has also had significant growth in circulation and readership, recording its highest readership since 1985 and was last year named Newspaper of the Year by PANPA.
