The Age supports Breast Cancer Awareness
To support Pink Ribbon Day, raise awareness and generate much needed funds for breast cancer research, Monday's special edition of The Age was published on pink paper.
By buying Monday’s Age, readers were able to make a contribution to the campaign to raise breast cancer awareness and help fund research. A donation of 10 cents from each copy of The Age sold was donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Age also went pink online with theage.com.au having a pink theme, while one of The Age’s classifieds sites, domain.com.au, went pink for the entire week.
The Age was joined in this initiative by other Fairfax mastheads including The Sydney Morning Herald, Illawarra Mercury and the Newcastle Herald. Together, by donating 10c from each copy sold, we aim to raise more than $60,000.
It is estimated that in Australia more than 13,000 women and 100 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, according to figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. About 2700 Australians die from breast cancer each year. Early diagnosis is the key to survival. Readers’ contributions will help that cause.
Readers can make donations by visiting www.pinkribbon.org.au or by buying a pink ribbon or wristand.
